We've analyzed over 200 airlines to find out which are the least and most punctual airlines, based on data provided by Flightstats.

Some of these were already among the most delayed airlines last year: Tunisair, TAP Portugal, Icelandair, Egyptair, or Aigle Azur, are becoming the infamous recurring airlines sitting at the bottom of the ranking of the most punctual airlines in the world.

Overall, while the on-time performance of the airlines at the very bottom of the ranking was worse than it already was in 2018, the punctuality of the "least worst" of those delayed airlines has improved.

Among other noteworthy insights:

  • Tunisair succeeding in doing even worse than the previous year and remains the only airline in the world with more delayed flights than on-time ones.
  • Icelandair registered the biggest improvement of the lot, with an on-time performance jumping over 10 points compared to 2018
  • Air Canada, one of the largest airlines in the world, remains at the bottom of the ranking despite minor improvements to the punctuality of its flights in 2019

Many of the most punctual airlines of 2019 were already at the top of the ranking last year, like Qatar Airways, ANA, Japan Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Singapore Airlines, South African Airways, Spirit Airlines, and Iberia.

Here again, the top of the ranking seems to have got even more punctual, while the "worst-among-the-best" airlines experienced a slight reduction in punctuality in 2019.

Some key insights:

  • Russian airline Aeroflot makes a sensational entrance in the ranking by securing the top spot and title of most punctual airline: 89.61% of its flights arrived on time in 2019, close to 2 points more than the challenger
  • LATAM and Korean Airlines registered the biggest increases in punctuality among the top airlines, each with a growth of over 7 points compared to 2018
  • US airlines are underrepresented, with only two airlines among the 20 most punctual air carriers in the world
