Turkish Airlines Flight Delay Compensation

Turkish Airlines' passengers sometimes arrive later than planned at their destination. When they do, however, they can claim up to 600€ in compensation for their delayed flight. Your rights are procetted by EC261, the European regulation.

Flight delays bother Turkish Airlines just as much as their passengers. The airline that boast the largest amount of countries as destinations also has a schedule to stick to, after all. However, not all delays are the same - and when the airline is responsible, it’s only fair that passengers get compensated for their trouble.

You can get up to 600€ in compensation for your delayed flight with Turkish Airlines, depending on the length of your journey. To be eligible, you must have reached your destination at least 3 hours after the originally scheduled time of arrival, and the airline must be responsible for the delay. This applies to flight from Europe that were operated by Turkish Airlines.

As you can see from the data above, since January 2018, about 24% of Turkish Airlines’ flights arrived 15 minutes late or more. On average, flights by the airline were delayed by 39 minutes. Turkish Airlines actually registered a very good second quarter, with “only” one flight out of five arriving late (remember, the industry average is 25%, or one out of four flights). But their average performance isn’t as good mainly due to a bad third quarter that saw an increase of 9 points in the airline’s delayed flights ratio. By opposition, the As such, Turkish Airlines’ on-time performance can be qualified as slightly above average, with a rating of 5.4 out of 10.

      Turkish Airlines Flight Cancellation Compensation

The Turkish regulation states that airlines must compensate their passengers for cancelled internal flights with 100€: while ClaimCompass does not take care of these claims, you can contact Turkish Airlines directly if this happens to you.

International flights from Turkey also grant rights to passengers in the event of flight cancellation: they can be owed up to 600€. The same applies to flights from outside the EU to Turkey.

But Turkish Airlines are also subject to EC261 for their cancelled flights from Europe to Turkey. When the cancellation occur because of circumstances out of their control, they are not obligated to pay compensation to their passengers. But in cases that do not qualify as “extraordinary circumstances”, you could be owed between 250€ and 600€ from the airline.

The conditions ensuring your right to compensation when Turkish Airlines cancel your flight are slightly more complicated than for flight delays. In short, if the airline is responsible for the cancellation, they haven’t given you at least a 14-day notice, and you reach your final destination late (or don’t reach it at all), then it’s very likely that you are eligible under the EU Regulation.

Turkish Airlines provides a statement on the claim on average 17 days after it was submitted. Compared to the rest of the industry, a rather good performance. However, it takes slightly longer than the industry average for what matters most: solving a claim. Turkish Airlines to close a claim: passengers eligible to compensation from the airline will receive it after 13 weeks, on average. The airline is cooperative and strives to apply both the EU and Turkish regulations that it is subject to. When a case requires the intervention of the court and the latter rules in favour of the passenger, the airline is very responsive. Turkish Airlines is among the fastest ones to pay compensation after a decision from the court (passengers can expect to receive their compensation in about 5 weeks) - but the case did require an external intervention in the first place. Our experts are used to dealing with Turkish Airlines and work hard to secure your compensation in as little time as possible.
